Hello Collaborative Leadership Team members. NGCP has formed a partnership with the Foundation for Advancing Alcohol Responsibility and this information is part of our efforts to assist in distribution of high quality resources. Please send this information to your various networks. Thank you for spreading the word.
April is Alcohol Responsibility Month: What better way to celebrate than with science-based resources? Ask, Listen, Learn: Kids and Alcohol Don't Mixhttp://asklistenlearn.org/teachers/teaching-effects-alcohol-brain/ is a FREE program for youth ages 9-12 and their parents and educators. Developed by Responsibility.org alongside experts in middle level education, Ask, Listen, Learn aims to teach kids the value in saying "yes" to a healthy lifestyle and "no" to underage drinking.
In 2016, Ask, Listen, Learn released cutting-edge digital materials for science classrooms and programs. The new lesson plans and corresponding animated videoshttps://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLGT-VCgldcdY6jWfzmEyzuV3hzfhaSjTH take kids on a journey through different parts of the developing brain, teaching what each part does, what alcohol does to it, and how that can affect them. These videos and lessons, along with unique classroom activities, and research-based content make the program comprehensive for science teachers, parents and other educators and caregivers. Program content regarding the effects of alcohol has been reviewed by the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA) and is consistent with currently available science.
This April, download one of the lesson plans to use with your students and share with your colleagues. The digital nature of Ask, Listen, Learn allows for the integration to an online community - sign up herehttp://asklistenlearn.org/alcohol-affects-brain-email-signup-teachers/ for more free content and to join the group of educators and parents who care about sharing the facts and stopping underage drinking in their communities.
There is no better time to start the conversation about underage drinking, and using science to engage your students and teach them the facts about alcohol, while also teaching them the skills they need to make good decisions, is one of the greatest ways to reach them. We hope you will join us and take advantage of what the Ask Listen Learn program has to offer.
