Hello Leap into Science State Leadership Team Members-
Please take a few moments to read the following reminders. Some of them have action items associated with them. Please reach out with any questions.
- Community Call Feedback
If you haven’t done so, please provide feedback on the Leap into Science Community Calls. The responses to this surveyhttps://go.edc.org/Leap-into-Science-June-Community-Meeting-Survey will provide valuable information about how we can best support you through our monthly Community Calls. https://go.edc.org/Leap-into-Science-June-Community-Meeting-Survey
- Wind Unit Book Discussion
During NLI, we had a discussion about incorporating a broader selection of books in order to address diversity, equity, and inclusion. As we revise the next unit of workshops for year two, we are seeking your input on wind-themed books that feature diverse characters, cultures, and languages. Currently, we are working on creating a guide on what makes a good Leap into Science book. Until this guide is completed, please consider the following as you are suggesting books:
- Accurate depiction of science concepts – Is the science accurate? Does the book perpetuate scientific misconceptions?
- Captivating story – Will the story capture the audience’s attention? Is there too much text for a read aloud? Is it age appropriate?
- Compelling visuals – Is the scientific phenomenon clearly depicted through the pictures?
Please populate this google spreadsheethttps://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1VoisuSjM_b4eWhEnEVBTMpWUQMAlvrcS3pLjIph1FqQ/edit?usp=sharing with book suggestions.
- Materials Lists, Agendas, and PowerPoints
The Leap into Science binder you received at NLI is a great resource to reference as you are planning for your Educator Trainings. As a reminder, make sure to look to the website for the most recent versions of the Leap into Science support documentshttp://leap.fi.edu/support-resources including training agendas, PPT decks, materials lists, etc. If you should have any questions or concerns, please reach out.
