Wind Unit Book Discussion
During NLI, we had a discussion about incorporating a broader selection of books in order to address diversity, equity, and inclusion. As we revise the next unit of workshops for year two, we are seeking your input on wind-themed books that feature diverse characters, cultures, and languages. Currently, we are working on creating a guide on what makes a good Leap into Science book. Until this guide is completed, please consider the following as you are suggesting books:
- Accurate depiction of science concepts – Is the science accurate? Does the book perpetuate scientific misconceptions?
- Captivating story – Will the story capture the audience’s attention? Is there too much text for a read aloud? Is it age appropriate?
- Compelling visuals – Is the scientific phenomenon clearly depicted through the pictures?
