As a reminder, please meet with your State Leadership Team and add details to/update the first six tabs on your state profile by October 28, 2020.

We will see all three Cohorts on the next Leap into Science Community Meeting on Wednesday, December 16, 2020 at 11:00 AM Pacific | 2:00 PM Eastern.

We appreciated your questions last week related to charging fees for programs that include Leap into Science curricula. We spoke with the rest of the team and are able to share more information about this:

For the grant-funded activities in 2020-2021 including state leaders leading virtual trainings for 50-80 educators, and educators leading three workshops for children and families, here are our updated expectations:

  1. Because the target audience for this grant is underserved rural and urban communities, cost should not be a barrier that prohibits these children and families from attending workshops led by trained educators. However, trained organizations are not prohibited from charging nominal fees associated with the costs of the program in accordance with the practices of their organizations.
  2. Virtual trainings should be offered for free to educators in 2020-2021, since there are no food costs associated with these trainings.

In addition, in each organization's signed contract for participation in this program, the intellectual property section outlines additional guidelines for approved usage of curriculum and training resources:

  1. Intellectual Property
    *  Ownership.  Organization acknowledges that The Franklin Institute (TFI) is the sole owner of or has secured all necessary rights to the curriculum and training resources. Organization may not sell to any third party the right to use the curriculum and training resources or TFI's Marks.
    *  Distribution. Organization may only share TFI curriculum and training resources in the context of an approved Leap into Science training associated with this agreement, with educators who have completed the entire training.  This applies to both physical and electronic formats of all curriculum and training resources.
    *  Translations.  TFI grants Organization the right to translate or have translated the curriculum and training resources, at their own costs, into another language (the "Translations"); provided, that TFI shall have the right to approve the Translations in advance of any use thereof. The copyright to the Translations shall become the property of TFI upon creation, and Organization acknowledges that the Translations are owned solely and exclusively by TFI.  TFI shall be entitled, free of charge, to use, license and sublicense the Translations, and Organization shall, at TFI's request, promptly provide a copy of the Translations to TFI for such purpose.

If you have any other questions as you are planning, please reach out to leapsupport@fi.edumailto:leapsupport@fi.edu.

Best,

Leap into Science program team
