Subject: [Ngcpchampions] National Girls Collaborative Project Summer 2014 Update
Happy Summer to our fabulous Champions! I hope you are enjoying your summer. Here in Seattle, the weather has been especially spectacular! We have been extra busy at NGCP, assisting new Collaborative teams in planning their kick-off conferences, forming new partnerships, and improving our external messaging. I hope you have been following us via social media. Thanks to Kate Goddard, NGCP Outreach Manager, our social media reach and activity has more than doubled.
NEXT CHAMPIONS BOARD WEBINAR MEETING: We'd like to have a one hour webinar meeting in September to provide an update and to introduce our new Champions Board members to the larger group. Please complete this pollhttp://doodle.com/y3vw546zyqmgdcy9 so we can choose the most convenient time for the majority of you. If none of the days and times work for you, it is our practice to record all Champions Board webinar meetings for your access.
Introduction to NGCP and the Role and Impact of Collaborative Champions Board Members Recording and Resources Available: In May, over 100 attendees participated in this webinar to introduce NGCP to potential Collaborative Champions Board members and provide an update on national NGCP impact. Judith Iriarte-Gross, Collaborative Lead for Tennessee, and Sharon Barker, Collaborative Lead for Maine, both shared examples of how Champions Board members have contributed to the impact of NGCP in their region. The Society of Women Engineers also shared information about their national partnership with NGCP and how it is benefitting their work. We have heard from a number of Collaboratives they plan to use this recording in upcoming meetings with potential Champions Board members and that it was a valuable training resource. Recording and resources posted herehttp://www.ngcproject.org/introduction-ngcp-and-role-and-impact-collaborative-champions-board-members.
KICK OFF CONFERENCES: If you haven't attended an NGCP event, I hope you will consider attending one soon. You can watch the NGCP enewsletter as well as check the Events page on the website. Here are two kick-off conferences scheduled that will be especially engaging. Registration is available on the Events page.
Oregon Girls Collaborative Project Kick-off Conference, Wilsonville, OR; September 15, 2014; 9:00 AM-3:00 PM
New York STEAM Collaborative Kick-off, Malta, NY; October 25, 2014; 9:00 AM-3:00 PM
UPDATED EVALUATION HIGHLIGHTS: We've updated our Evaluation Highlightshttp://www.ngcproject.org/sites/default/files/edlab_evaluationhighlights_wp_web.pdf report. This is a great resource for impact information about NGCP.
UPDATE ON NGCP FEASIBILITY STUDY: As many of you know, after sixteen years of operation, and given the growth and success of the NGCP, staff and stakeholders participated in a strategic visioning and planning process focused on determining the best options for expanding program delivery and broadening the impact of this important work. We have ample evidence of the NGCP's effectiveness and evaluation results are clear about the immense value and comprehensiveness of the NGCP model. To date, NGCP's growth has been supported with funding from the National Science Foundation (NSF) and our goals and activities have been limited to those identified within the NSF grant. Data collected through the strategic visioning process has indicated that for NGCP to continue to provide more innovative network support and programming, it is now time to establish development efforts that include contributed revenue from individual donors, private foundations, and corporations. This funding strategy will allow us to become more nimble and responsive to the needs of the women and girls in STEM programs across the country, launching the NGCP as its own, independent non-profit organization.
Special thanks to those of you who participated in the study. We are in the midst of forming our founding Board of Directors and preparing for a "spin-off". This process will not affect our daily operations; however, as we move forward, we will look to you, our Champions, to continue to guide us. I will share more information about this in September. Our current National Science Foundation grant ends in March of 2016, so this new work will occur in parallel and be funded separately, leveraging the services and network we've built.
I look forward to reconnecting with you in September! Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have questions or suggestions that can assist in increasing our impact.
