Hello Champions Board members,
I hope you are all healthy and managing the world that is our current reality. At the National Girls Collaborative Project, we continue to highlight high quality online resources to address the COVID-19. Some of you may remember the focus of our last five-year National Science Foundation grant awarded in 2010 was focused on identifying, creating, and serving girls of color and girls with disabilities. We are renewing those resources and activities, reconnecting our community to the information and actions they are requesting.
Please distribute the following opportunities to your networks. Feel free to connect folks to me for additional information.
Brite Online Summer Program for Girls: Brite is a bold, interdisciplinary program built especially for girls ages 13-16 beginning on July 13, 2020 and running for three weeks, ending July 31,2020. A combination of COVID-19, the summer slide, and lack of equity across the science field for females create an urgent need to fill the vacuum of programs, which cannot be held in person this year. In a first-of-its-kind collaboration, the World Science Foundationhttps://www.worldsciencefestival.com/ (WSF), National Girls Collaborative Project (NGCP), and The Hello Studioshttps://jenstancil.com/home/the-hello-studios are joining forces to bring a high-quality STEM-centered program. Brite consists of three new courses that explore unique topics, such as the intersection of art and science, the strategies of women working with dangerous creatures, and the challenges of conducting experiments on the human brain. Each week features keynote speakers from cutting-edge fields with careers as diverse as working at YouTube, the National Forestry Service, and our nation's top universities. Applicants will be notified on Tuesday, June 16, 2020. Short turn around time and we already have 20+ applications, but if you know of a program that may appreciate the opportunity, feel free to send it along.
Technical Project Manager: We are planning to implement significant updates to our various NGCP websites and databases over the next six months and are looking for a contract project manager with excellent communication skills, as well as a technical background. The Technical Project Manager will work closely with the NGCP team, collaborating partners, and external technical staff and agencies to develop, manage, and expand the functionality of the organization's websites, including ngcproject.org, theconnectory.org, and fabfems.org. This is a half-time contract position, available on July 1. We hope to start interviewing candidates on June 18. Please distribute to colleagues who might be interested in this opportunity. We are looking forward to providing you with an update in an online meeting in August. I'll distribute a Doodle poll before the end of June.
Thank you for all you are doing to support young people during this very important time. Please reach out if NGCP can assist you in any way.
