Brite is a bold, interdisciplinary program built especially for girls ages 13-16 beginning on July 13, 2020 and running for three weeks, ending July 31,2020.
A combination of COVID-19, the summer slide, and lack of equity across the science field for females create an urgent need to fill the vacuum of programs, which cannot be held in person this year. In a first-of-its-kind collaboration, the World Science Foundationhttps://www.worldsciencefestival.com/ (WSF), National Girls Collaborative Project (NGCP), and The Hello Studioshttps://jenstancil.com/home/the-hello-studios are joining forces to bring a high-quality STEM-centered program. Brite consists of three new courses that explore unique topics, such as the intersection of art and science, the strategies of women working with dangerous creatures, and the challenges of conducting experiments on the human brain. Each week features keynote speakers from cutting-edge fields with careers as diverse as working at YouTube, the National Forestry Service, and our nation's top universities. This is a pilot program. We hope to continue and expand the program based on feedback from the first round of grantees. Access is free to selected programs. The grant consists of training, curriculum resources, and access to the platform. Programs must agree to serve a minimum of 10 girls as well as provide 1:1 devices and internet access.
