Hello Convening Participants, I hope you are doing well.  We have a request and an announcement.

Collaborations and Partnerships Resulting from Convening Connections:  Have you connected, collaborated, or created a partnership with anyone - sparked by your convening attendance?  If so, we would love to hear about it.  Please write to me with any connections or projects you feel are relevant (kpeterson@ngcproject.org).

STEM for All Video Showcase: Ari Hock, Research Assistant at the University of Washington, (who you met at the convening) has created a video (with the help of convening participants) entitled (Un)Common Measures for OST STEM Learning, reflecting some of the outcomes of the convening.  Watch the video here:  http://videohall.com/p/2186 as part of the 2021 STEM for All Video Showcasehttps://stemforall2021.videohall.com/ funded by the National Science Foundation.  The event will be held online May 11th - 18th at https://stemforall2021.videohall.com/

The most recent synthesis of research on learning confirms that learning is a complex cultural process that occurs across both time and setting (NASEM, 2018). The time spent outside of the school classroom - more than 80% of a school-aged person's waking hours - has been shown to be pivotal in developing interests, identities, and capacities to engage with ideas and subject matter they may also encounter in school, including STEM (Banks, 2006; National Research Council, 2006; OSTP, 2018). This video is focused on two lines of argument in the literature that pertain to the value and potential of student learning outcomes as they relate to OST STEM program quality.  The first focuses on issues of equity in STEM learning and the second pertains to ecological perspectives on STEM learning.

About the Showcase
Now in its seventh year, the annual showcase will feature over 280 innovative projects aimed at improving Science, Math, Engineering and CS education, which have been funded by the National Science Foundation and other federal agencies. During the 8 day event, researchers, practitioners, policy makers and members of the public are invited to view the short videos, discuss them with the presenters online, and vote for their favorites.

The theme for this year's event is "COVID, Equity & Social Justice." Video presentations address broadening participation, impacts of COVID on STEM teaching and learning, design implementation on STEM and CS programs, research informing STEM and CS teaching and learning, and measuring impact of innovative programs. Collectively the presentations cover a broad range of topics including science, mathematics, computer science, engineering, cyberlearning, citizen science, maker spaces, broadening participation, research experiences, mentoring, professional development, NGSS and the Common Core.

Last year's STEM for All Video Showcasehttps://stemforall2020.videohall.com/ is still being accessed, and to date has had over 86,000 unique visitors from 180 countries.

The STEM for All Video Showcase is hosted by TERChttps://www.terc.edu/, in partnership with: STEMTLnethttp://stemtlnet.org/, CADREhttps://cadrek12.org/, CAISEhttp://informalscience.org/, CIRCLShttps://circls.org/, STELARhttp://stelar.edc.org/, CS for All Teachershttps://csforallteachers.org/, NARSThttp://narst.org/, NCTMhttps://www.nctm.org/, NSTAhttps://www.nsta.org/, NSF INCLUDEShttps://includesnetwork.connectedcommunity.org/new-a/coordinationhub, and QEMhttp://www.qem.org/.
