Hello Collaborative Leads and Co-Leads,
We would like to thank you for your continued patience as the National Girls Collaborative Project works to transition our NSF grant. As we shared earlier, NSF is finalizing the transfer of the NGCP NSF grant from the EdLab Group to the Afterschool Alliancehttp://www.afterschoolalliance.org/.
NGCP is now its own, independent, non-profit with 501c3 tax-exempt status, as well as additional status as a public charity. As a new non-profit, NGCP is not currently eligible to manage the NSF grant and so we must use a fiscal sponsor - our good partner - the Afterschool Alliance. Unfortunately, this transfer has taken much longer than anticipated. We will continue to share updates as we receive them.
Many of you are waiting for your new NGCP Collaborative Contracts. We have worked out a solution whereby we will start creating contracts for our Collaboratives through the "new" non-profit NGCP and route any funding available to your Collaborative through the Afterschool Alliance. While we won't be able to distribute those funds until the grant transfers, at least we will have contracts in place. We will start issuing draft contracts for your review next week.
The NSF grant will continue through March 2016 (and perhaps beyond if we apply for no-cost extension). NGCP is moving to a new financial structure that includes private foundation grants, other federal grants and sponsors. As part of our growth, we are hosting an Information Meeting for New NGCP Collaboratives (for a select group of representatives from states that do not currently have a Collaborative), next week. We will be exploring a fee-based model with these new states as a pilot for 2015 and beyond. While we hope that future funding allows us to continue providing seed funding to new Collaboratives, we do not currently have funding for the technical support required to bring on new Collaboratives. NGCP has created a significant amount of scaling and capacity building resources and have determined that a small amount of funding is necessary and appropriate to support future growth. We look forward to including all of you in our future visioning conversations to fully inform the sustainability of NGCP.
Again, we thank you for your patience. I have been in touch with many of you individually in recent months to address specific questions and concerns about funds your Collaborative is waiting for. Please continue to send your questions and concerns. We are appreciative of all the work you are doing to maintain the work of NGCP and look forward to hearing about events and activities that are planned by your teams in the coming months!
Warmly,
Nimisha
